How Online Booking Helps Pendleton Community Service Fund Support More Military Families

Pendleton Community Service Fund (PCSF) is a California charity that has provided free furniture and housewares to military families and homeless veterans since 2004. As the operation grew into a warehouse with regular donation pickups and a largely volunteer workforce, the founders faced heavy phone traffic, inefficient routing that wasted time and fuel, and occasional “free riders” dropping off poor-quality items — all of which limited their ability to serve more families.

PCSF implemented Vonigo’s nonprofit donation software and an online booking engine (with help from volunteers at RethinkProcess) and introduced a $20 minimum pickup donation to deter low-quality donations. The results: donation pickups rose 23% year-over-year in Q1 2019, cash donations increased 250% for the same period, phone traffic fell 40%, and optimized routing into five areas plus smartphone-enabled drivers cut travel time, fuel use, and dispatcher workload.
