Tower Paddle Boards Survives Shark Tank, Makes Millions, with Help of Volusion

Tower Paddle Boards is a San Diego–based direct-to-consumer brand founded by Stephan Aarstol that sells stand-up paddle boards (SUPs). The company needed an easy-to-manage, SEO-friendly ecommerce solution to scale quickly, support heavy organic search traffic, and survive occasional huge spikes in demand—most notably after Aarstol’s appearance on Shark Tank and the subsequent investor interest from Mark Cuban.

Tower used Volusion’s hosted ecommerce platform, templates and marketing tools (plus temporary server upgrades and a splash page for Shark Tank) to handle traffic and streamline operations. The result: site traffic grew roughly 300% year-over-year, revenue climbed from early monthly sales of about $3,000 to nearly $250,000 in one year and is on pace for $1.5M, the business tripled in a year, and the site withstood the Shark Tank surge while attracting a $150K investment from Mark Cuban.
