Notch, founded in 2013 by Paul Cunningham in Boston, redesigned the baseball cap to solve a common annoyance: sunglasses rubbing against the hat brim. Frustrated by constantly adjusting his eyewear on the golf course, Cunningham set out to create a hat that lets people wear sunglasses comfortably without interference.
The result is the Notch hat, which reduces contact between frames and the brim for a better fit and more comfort with nearly any eyewear style. Paired with an aggressive digital marketing strategy — targeted email campaigns and Google Shopping — the company expanded its reach and attracted more customers.
