Voltus worked with a leading higher education institution in New York that was looking for a way to generate new revenue without hurting comfort for students, faculty, and staff. The college was especially concerned about participating in demand response on hot summer days, when electricity curtailment could affect campus operations. Voltus used its demand response expertise and real-time metering technology to evaluate the campus and identify buildings with flexible load.

Voltus then created a customer-specific curtailment plan and installed Voltlets and the VoltApp platform at no cost to the college, enabling participation in multiple NYISO demand response programs. The solution included pre-cooling, raising chiller set points, and turning off air handlers and lighting, while also streamlining enrollment and program communications. As a result, the college saved and earned roughly $120K in the last 12 months, with about a 30% reduction in peak demand and plans to unlock even more value through BMS integration and automated curtailment.
