Purple speeds indoor wayfinding with Volpis in an 18-month partnership

Purple, a UK-based digital connectivity company, required modern native mobile apps to complement its existing web-based indoor wayfinding solution. The challenge was to build reliable iOS and Android applications featuring accurate blue-dot navigation, which is inherently difficult due to GPS being unusable indoors and the variability of Bluetooth beacon signals. They partnered with the vendor, Volpis, to develop this product from scratch.

Volpis built custom native iOS and Android apps with a specialized navigation layer to correct for signal drift, ensuring a stable blue dot. They implemented a remote-testing loop with on-site partners to overcome the inability to test locally and moved map tile generation to the backend to solve performance issues, which improved map load time by more than 10x. The Volpis team delivered a full-featured wayfinding product through an 18-month collaboration, providing end-to-end development and quality assurance.
