University of British Columbia Enterprise POS

The University of British Columbia, a campus of over 50,000 students with dozens of food and retail venues, faced a fragmented POS environment that caused slow payment processing, poor reporting, missed employee errors, and difficulty managing complex residence meal plans—even risking database overload during peak periods. UBC needed a single, reliable, real-time enterprise POS that could streamline operations, consolidate data and support its large, distributed campus.

Volanté Enterprise POS was implemented across 50+ campus venues, built around the student ID card and supporting mixed Windows/Linux topologies as well as wired and wireless connectivity. The system centralized meal-plan management and card payments, added gift cards, rewards, inventory and kitchen display functionality, and enabled fast credit/debit authorization and recipe costing. The result: no data loss over years, fewer errors, much faster transactions and synchronized reporting, reduced waste and better menu/stock control, increased revenue from monetized ID and gift cards, and lower support costs.
