Dyn McDermott, the company managing the strategic petroleum reserves for the Department of Energy, needed a more reliable disaster recovery phone system after Hurricane Katrina exposed the limits of its old setup. Its existing solution was only a single voicemail line, which could not support multiple departments or enough messages during an evacuation.
VoiceNation implemented its Virtual PBX as a backup to Dyn McDermott’s main auto attendant, giving each department its own extension and unlimited voicemail. With VoiceNation, employees could update their location and contact details from anywhere, and callers could still reach the same department extensions after an evacuation. The result was a communications system that kept 600 employees connected and allowed the business to stay up even when phone lines or power were down.
