Case Study: ubitricity makes EV charging more affordable with Vodafone M2M Platform

A Vodafone Global Enterprise Case Study

Preview of the ubitricity Case Study

ubitricity opens up new avenues in electric mobility using Vodafone IoT

ubitricity, a Berlin-based energy company, faced the challenge of creating an affordable and accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Conventional charging stations were too expensive for widespread adoption. ubitricity needed a solution to enable mobile metering, secure billing, and activation for power drawn from simple sockets, such as street lamps. They partnered with vendor Vodafone and utilized its Global M2M Platform to develop this technical solution.

Vodafone implemented a solution by embedding its M2M SIM cards into ubitricity’s intelligent charging cables, which communicate via the M2M platform to control activation and billing. The vendor adapted its platform to meet the specific requirements of the charging system. The result was a solution that reduces acquisition and operating costs for charging-point providers by up to 90%, making electric vehicle infrastructure economically feasible for the first time and enabling international deployment.
