The Environment Agency, a UK government body responsible for flood defence, faced the challenge of efficiently monitoring its widespread and remote flood control infrastructure. To address this, the Agency partnered with vendor Vodafone Global Enterprise, utilizing the Vodafone Managed IoT Connectivity Platform.

Vodafone's solution involved a network of solar-powered smart cameras connected via its global SIMs, providing reliable connectivity in remote river valleys. This allowed the Environment Agency to receive regular photographic updates and monitor assets in real-time from a single platform. The results included a significantly improved alert state, more efficient direction of ground response teams, and enhanced productivity for field engineers, enabling better flood risk management.
