Project Surya builds a compelling case for domestic carbon reduction with Vodafone M2M

Project Surya, an international partnership aiming to reduce emissions from traditional cookstoves, needed a way to accurately monitor the usage of 5,000 clean cookstoves distributed across rural India. The challenge was to gather this remote usage data to incentivize users and build a viable business case for funders, as physical monitoring was not feasible. Vodafone Global Enterprise provided its M2M managed connectivity solution to address this challenge.

The Vodafone M2M solution enabled the remote collection of robust stove usage data through a smartphone-based application, ensuring reliable coverage even in remote areas. This allowed Project Surya to implement a usage-based financing model, incentivizing adoption and generating the critical data needed to prove the reduction in carbon emissions and secure funding for a larger global roll-out.
