The customer, npower, a major UK energy supplier, faced the government-mandated challenge of securely and reliably rolling out smart meters to millions of homes. They needed a connectivity solution capable of supporting the installation of up to 19,000 meters per week. npower partnered with vendor Vodafone Global Enterprise to provide the necessary secure and reliable connectivity for this massive IoT deployment, utilizing a global SIM solution.

The solution implemented by Vodafone provided the secure, resilient connectivity required for the smart meters to send and receive data. Vodafone’s Managed IoT Connectivity Platform and MachineLink 3G terminal also gave npower a dedicated testing environment, which greatly improved their diagnostic capabilities and ensured a robust technical infrastructure. This partnership equipped npower to begin its large-scale roll-out, creating a roadmap for future smart home services.
