MCL Insurance creates bespoke approach to car insurance

MCL Insurance Services Ltd, an online insurance broker based in Northern Ireland, faced the challenge of entering the youth car insurance market. To individualize premiums and accurately assess driver risk, they needed a sophisticated telematics solution that could capture highly granular, per-second data on driving behaviour and integrate with their own IT systems. This led them to partner with vendor Vodafone Global Enterprise.

The solution implemented by Vodafone was its comprehensive Automotive Telematics platform. This end-to-end solution provided the hardware, managed connectivity, and data services, which enabled MCL to capture precise driving data and create its own driver scoring algorithm. The results included the accumulation of 117 million miles of driver data, a leadership position with 17,000 customers in the Irish telematics market, and a strengthened ability to pursue international expansion and new market segments.
