DriveNow offers a flexible carsharing concept with Vodafone IoT

DriveNow, a carsharing joint venture between BMW and Sixt, needed an efficient and reliable communication architecture to power its flexible, "free floating" vehicle service. To operate effectively, they required a partner with expertise in networking technologies to handle the data transmission necessary for their business model. They selected Vodafone Global Enterprise for its M2M (Machine to Machine) solutions and data communication services.

Vodafone implemented a cloud-based solution where the Vodafone mobile network transmits non-sensitive customer data from the vehicles to the data center for automated processes like unlocking cars, logging trips, and billing. This included integrating parking fee payments via M2M. The solution enabled seamless, automated operations for over 90,000 registered users and laid the groundwork for future service modules, including multimodal transport integration through a smartphone app. Vodafone's technology provided the robust networking foundation essential for DriveNow's growth and flexibility.
