ASB Bank cuts energy costs with a Vodafone M2M smart metering solution

ASB Bank, one of New Zealand's largest banks, faced the challenge of reducing its considerable energy consumption and meeting government targets. To do so, they needed to deploy over 200 smart meters, requiring an experienced M2M partner and a secure, reliable communication infrastructure separate from their own network. They partnered with Vodafone Global Enterprise for a smart metering solution.

Vodafone implemented a comprehensive M2M solution that provided a separate network for the meters to transmit data in near real-time. This allowed the bank to immediately identify inefficiencies and adjust energy use. The solution delivered by Vodafone saved ASB Bank NZ$2.65 million over three years, reduced energy consumption by 23%, and cut CO2 emissions by over 1,000 tonnes per year.
