SA Power Networks rolls out 200 Starlink units with Vocus for real-time field connectivity

SA Power Networks, an Australian electricity distributor, faced a challenge with its outdated satellite hardware that provided only 0.5 Mbps speeds and the impending 3G network shutdown, which hindered real-time communication for its regional emergency response vehicles. To improve restoration times, worker safety, and efficiency, the company partnered with vendor Vocus to implement a new connectivity solution.

Vocus deployed its Vocus Satellite – Starlink service across 200 units on vehicles and at fixed sites, with custom mounts provided by installation partner Advanced Mobile IT. The solution resulted in significant efficiency gains, enabling real-time data transfer and communication. This allowed crews to close out work faster and introduced the ability to perform remote digital field switching, dramatically improving emergency response capabilities and community resilience.
