Yorkshire Water Maximises The Utilisation Of It Infrastructure As It Drives Digital Transformation Of Utilities Sector

Yorkshire Water, a major UK utilities company supplying over a billion litres of drinking water daily, needed a more efficient, dynamic IT infrastructure to support digital initiatives like IoT sensors, drones and robotics. The IT team’s priorities were to simplify private‑cloud management, maximise existing investments and improve agility so new resources could be provisioned and managed faster.

Working with VMware Professional Services, Yorkshire Water deployed VMware vRealize Suite (Operations, Automation, Lifecycle Manager) and VMware Skyline to consolidate management, automate delivery and enable proactive support. The result: server provisioning dropped from seven days to two hours, wasted compute was cut by 38% (removing 10 hosts), faster issue detection and root‑cause analysis, simpler patching and scaling, and freed IT staff to focus on higher‑value work with added sustainability benefits from a smaller physical footprint.
