VMware Virtual SAN Solution Improves Performance and Reduces Downtime

Agropur Ingredients, a La Crosse, Wisconsin–based maker of cheese and food ingredients with a network of local plant data centers, was running out of capacity on aging direct‑attached storage. The limited performance and cumbersome backup/restore processes threatened round‑the‑clock production—an unacceptable risk given patchy internet at remote sites and the high cost of any downtime.

Agropur deployed VMware Virtual SAN integrated with vSphere across its plants on Supermicro hosts with SSDs and 10Gb networking, enabling a fast, seamless migration. The solution delivered significantly more storage at lower cost, eliminated disruptive downtime, improved application performance (ERP, Exchange, SQL and custom apps), simplified maintenance and scaling, and freed the server team to focus on higher‑value work while rolling the solution out to additional sites.
