A VMware Case Study
The University of South Carolina Upstate, a metropolitan campus in Spartanburg serving about 6,000 students—many of them non-traditional, commuter, or first‑generation—faced aging lab hardware, limited IT staff and fragmented storage that constrained online and on‑demand education and made it hard to provide timely access to course software.
USC Upstate implemented VMware Horizon, App Volumes and vSAN to build Spartan GreenSky, a secure digital workspace that streams 40+ course applications and runs on all‑flash hyper‑converged storage. The deployment halved VM redeployment time, gave students and faculty fast, anytime access from any device, cut software licensing and lab costs, improved IT efficiency, and enabled higher‑performance computing and expansion of online programs.
