Case Study: Steel Authority of India Ltd achieves automated disaster recovery and high uptime with VMware

A VMware Case Study

Preview of the Steel Authority of India Ltd Case Study

VMware helped CET-SAIL to automate its disaster recovery environment for all critical applications with high uptime and no data loss

The Centre for Engineering and Technology (CET), the engineering and consultancy arm of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), was charged with centralizing IT for SAIL but faced critical gaps: although it ran business-critical applications on a VMware-backed virtual datacenter, it had no disaster recovery (DR) mechanism and relied on a single primary datacenter and costly traditional SAN storage. This left CET exposed to downtime, data loss and high maintenance costs requiring specialized skills.

VMware implemented a DR site using vSphere ESXi with replication, VMware Site Recovery Manager for automated failover and testing, vCenter for centralized management, and vSAN for virtualized, distributed storage. The deployment automated DR for critical applications, increased uptime, eliminated single points of failure and data loss, simplified storage management, and reduced costs and dependence on specialized maintenance skills.
