VMware Enables the Shanghai Police College to Build a High-performance Storage Architecture

Shanghai Police College, a major police academy in Shanghai, faced inefficient IT resource use, high operational pressures and rising storage costs as its growing mix of teaching, library and training applications demanded different SLAs. With more than 160 physical servers and a small IT team, centralized storage either wasted resources or became hard to manage and scale.

The college deployed VMware vSphere and Virtual SAN to virtualize servers and create a software-defined storage pool across its hosts, using SSDs and HDDs for performance and capacity. The solution enabled SLA-driven, policy-based storage, easier management through the vSphere Web Client, built-in redundancy and scale-out growth—cutting TCO (up to 50%), lowering footprint and enabling migration of key systems like CNKI, the CCTV Video Library and the PSB Case database.
