A VMware Case Study
The State of Louisiana’s Office of Technology Services consolidated IT for 16 state agencies and inherited thousands of applications running on 20–30 year‑old systems. Its goals were to modernize data centers, improve security and scalability for critical services such as Medicaid and workers’ comp, unify endpoint management, and ensure disaster resiliency and public‑cloud portability.
Partnering with VMware and Venture Technologies, the state built a software‑defined data center using vSphere, vRealize, NSX, Horizon, and Workspace ONE, and consolidated nine data centers into two active‑active sites. The transformation delivered near‑zero recovery objectives and 99.99% availability, supported 1.4 million Medicaid users during traffic spikes, enabled rapid disaster response with virtual desktops, and reduced CapEx by more than $1 million while saving millions more in operating expenses.
