SPAR ICS - Customer Case Study

SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels AG is a major Central European food retailer headquartered in Salzburg, operating 3,000 locations across eight countries and employing tens of thousands. Its in-house IT arm, SPAR ICS, faced a digitalization challenge: uneven transformation speeds across departments, the need to shift from an efficiency-focused IT model to an agile, business-oriented enabler, and the imperative to avoid costly outages while supporting rapid innovation.

SPAR ICS implemented a Service Delivery Platform—a managed hybrid cloud and software-defined data center built on VMware technologies with Axians and Hitachi—bringing automation, standardization and on-demand provisioning. The new platform delivers faster, scalable IT services, improved security (including micro-segmentation), higher user productivity and the ability to rapidly develop and deploy cloud services via a self-service model, freeing IT to focus on digital transformation and business needs.
