A VMware Case Study
Shriram Value Services (SVS), the IT and ITeS arm of India’s Shriram Group, manages datacentres in Chennai and Mumbai for the Group’s financial and insurance businesses. After the Chennai cyclone in December 2016 exposed weaknesses in disaster recovery and business continuity—high recovery time objectives (RTO), limited infrastructure visibility, and the need for seamless VM movement to DR—SVS set out to migrate to a private cloud to strengthen DR, monitoring and reduce downtime.
SVS deployed VMware vCloud Suite with Site Recovery Manager (and vRealize for predictive monitoring), enabling private-cloud migration, agile VM failover and simplified backups. Results included reducing RTO for mission‑critical workloads from 2.5 hours to about 30 minutes, better datacentre visibility and predictive issue resolution, consolidated SAP and core apps on virtualized storage, lower hardware and replacement costs, improved availability and faster application onboarding.
