A VMware Case Study

Preview of the State Bank of India Case Study

SBI worked with VMware to modernize its data center architecture for lower cost and greater adaptability to build India’s most robust private clouds

State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest bank, faced the challenge of supporting massive customer growth driven by the Digital India initiative and government payout programs while modernizing IT to deliver fast, secure digital services across thousands of branches and millions of transactions without exploding hardware costs.

Working with VMware, SBI built the “Meghdoot” private cloud using VMware vCloud Suite, NSX and Workspace ONE to enable central branch management, zero‑trust micro‑segmentation, performance monitoring and secure app delivery to any device. The platform now runs 250+ applications on 5,000+ VMs, cut IT infrastructure costs by 80%, supports management of 23,000+ branches and 220,000+ tellers, enabled 100,000+ flexible remote workers, slashed procurement from months to minutes and reduced downtime to just a few hours a year.
