Case Study: Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) achieves rapid provisioning and infrastructure consolidation with VMware Integrated OpenStack (VMware)

Revolutionising IT setup with private cloud implementation

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C‑DAC), Pune, is the premier R&D organization under India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) working on high‑end IT and electronics projects. Facing frequent, diverse project demands, C‑DAC needed on‑demand Infrastructure‑as‑a‑Service, a central dashboard for managing multiple virtual environments, faster provisioning to accelerate time‑to‑market, and lower operational and capital costs.

C‑DAC implemented a private cloud using VMware vSphere, vCenter and VMware Integrated OpenStack, which consolidated infrastructure and cut the physical hardware footprint. Provisioning work that once required five people can now be handled by one, routine OS upgrades and patching dropped from 2–3 months to 2 days, and central monitoring and improved resource visibility delivered greater agility and efficiency for research projects.
