A VMware Case Study
The Professional Provident Society (PPS) is a Johannesburg-based mutual financial services firm serving graduate professionals. As its environment grew, PPS faced a manual, resource‑intensive disaster recovery (DR) process that risked failing compliance audits and could not be tested without disrupting production—making it impossible to reliably meet the business’s four‑hour recovery objective.
PPS implemented VMware Site Recovery Manager integrated with its vSphere and Tintri storage to automate DR sequencing, IP management and failover. The automation cut VM startup from 3–4 hours to about 45 minutes, reduced cleanup from four hours to four minutes, allows suspension of ~70 non‑critical VMs, enabled non‑disruptive testing, reduced DR staff from 10 to 2, and delivered the audit compliance and recovery-time guarantees the business required.
