Porsche Informatik implements new Software-defined data center to Strengthen its digital leadership

Porsche Informatik, the Salzburg-based IT subsidiary of Porsche Holding (part of the Volkswagen Group), develops and operates 160 software solutions that support car configurators, dealerships and logistics across 27 countries. Faced with rising complexity from connected cars, e-drive and other digital trends, the company needed faster provisioning and time-to-market for developers while maintaining 24/7 availability and top-tier security against cyber threats.

Working with VMware, Porsche Informatik implemented a Software-Defined Data Center using vSphere, vSAN, NSX and vRealize automation and orchestration tools, deployed in phases starting with a four-month rollout. The new platform delivered rapid, automated provisioning, georedundant availability, micro-segmentation security and disaster recovery, cutting developer wait times, reducing operational overhead and strengthening the company’s competitive position while enabling future services like containers, AI and big data.
