A VMware Case Study
PKO Bank Polski, the largest and one of the oldest commercial banks in Poland serving about 9 million customers, faced the challenge of running highly available, scalable and secure IT systems for 24/7 critical banking services amid rising online use, cost pressures and growing cyber threats. The bank needed an environment that could support interconnected applications (like its IKO mobile app), handle peak transaction loads, and maintain strict regulatory and operational continuity targets.
PKO Bank Polski virtualized its infrastructure with VMware—moving roughly 70% of systems to virtual servers and adopting VMware NSX for micro-segmentation and integrated security (with Trend Micro for agentless protection), plus AirWatch for mobile management. The move delivered faster environment and application deployment, stronger security and monitoring, reduced hardware costs and downtime, improved infrastructure flexibility and scalability, and paved the way for a future private cloud and greater automation.
