New Cloud Infrastructure Helps Skalica City Administration Improve Public Services

The Free Royal Town of Skalica in western Slovakia, a municipal government of about 15,000 residents, faced the need to modernize its IT infrastructure after adopting cloud services in 2013. Its key challenges were reducing server operation costs, building a secure and flexible cloud platform, and automating and simplifying IT management to ensure high availability and data protection for citizen services.

Skalica partnered with Slovanet to deploy a next‑generation VMware-based cloud using vSAN, NSX and vCloud Director, enabling centralized management, rapid provisioning and scalable resources. The move cut upfront infrastructure costs by 10–15%, reduced administration and power expenses, improved system responsiveness and boosted overall IT operational effectiveness and availability.
