World’s Leading Communications Service Providing Company, a major telecommunications provider, was struggling to monitor and manage a highly complex, multi-vendor network supporting services like WAN connectivity, MPLS VPNs, Ethernet circuits, hosted voice, and cloud/security offerings. With up to 250,000 alarms a day and limited visibility into which customers were affected, the company could not diagnose outages quickly enough or efficiently protect SLAs. VMware Smart Assurance was used to address these operations challenges.
VMware implemented VMware Smart Assurance to automate network discovery, alarm correlation, root-cause analysis, and customer-impact prioritization across the CSP’s IP backbone, Metro-Ethernet, and transport networks. The solution reduced daily alarms from 250,000 to 110, cut troubleshooting time from hours to minutes, eliminated unnecessary truck rolls, and saved thousands of hours by removing manual NMS rule updates. It also integrated with customer databases and ticketing systems to automate closed-loop actions and help the team respond first to the most critical customers and services.
