Modernizing the Data Center with VMware vSAN

Hong Kong Cancer Fund (HKCF) is Hong Kong’s largest NGO providing free cancer support and related services for over 30 years. Facing an aging, low‑utilization data center and no formal disaster‑recovery plan, the charity needed isolated environments for secure application testing, stronger data protection to meet PDPO/GDPR requirements, and a cost‑effective, scalable IT roadmap to support new online donation and digital services.

HKCF deployed VMware vSphere and vSAN to consolidate workloads into a software‑defined storage platform with centralized management, automated DR and built‑in encryption and network segmentation. The modernization cut rack usage from 40RU to 8RU (~80%), lowered computer‑room temperature by 2°C and electricity costs by about 60%, reduced RTO from 48 hours to under 8 hours, and delivered stronger security, simpler management and a scalable foundation for future digital initiatives.
