A VMware Case Study
LCMC Health, the not-for-profit system that operates University Medical Center New Orleans, built a state-of-the-art hospital after Hurricane Katrina and faced an accelerated seven-month deadline to deploy a modern IT infrastructure. The organization needed to lower operating costs, rapidly roll out applications (including Epic), provide always-on access across multiple devices, and design a platform that could scale to support its other facilities.
Partnering with VMware, LCMC implemented VMware Horizon 6 and App Volumes to support about 5,000 thin clients, desktops and wireless devices, enable single sign-on, and centralize management and security. The virtual desktop solution cut staff login times by 87.5% (from 2 minutes to 15 seconds), freeing roughly 35 minutes per clinician per shift, drove significant hardware and maintenance cost savings by shifting to thin clients, and simplified application delivery, updates and remote support.
