A VMware Case Study
Helse Nord is Norway’s largest geographical health authority, operating 11 hospitals and serving about 480,000 inhabitants with IT support for 19,000 employees. Its legacy three-layer data center (networking, storage, compute) caused long provisioning times, limited scalability and growing security and compliance pressures, and could not meet emerging needs like IoT and faster service delivery.
Working with VMware and partner Core Services, Helse Nord migrated to a software-defined data center using vSphere, vSAN, NSX and vCloud Suite, unifying management and automating provisioning. The transformation cut delivery times from weeks to under an hour (and routine expansions to under 30 minutes), enabled microsegmentation and hybrid deployments, secured patient data and made records accessible to patients via helsenorge.no, and created a scalable foundation for IoT, DevOps and future services.
