Halton Healthcare Modernizes Data Centers and Expands with New Hospital

Halton Healthcare is an award-winning community hospital system in southern Ontario operating three hospitals and serving over 350,000 residents. Facing major expansions — including a new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and a population expected to double by 2031 — the organization needed to replace aging IT systems and seize the opportunity to deploy truly integrated, scalable technology across sites.

Working with VMware and partner Teknicor, Halton implemented VMware Horizon, App Volumes, User Environment Manager and two VCE Vblock 340 appliances to create one of Canada’s largest VDI deployments (about 600 virtual desktops) with built‑in disaster recovery. The rollout enabled a seamless clinician experience and single sign‑on, supported a zero‑downtime move of 270 patients and 400+ servers, standardized operations across sites, and saved clinicians an estimated 5–10 minutes per day — freeing hundreds of hours annually for patient care.
