A VMware Case Study
ESC Region 11 is a Texas education service center that supports 77 public school districts and 66 charter campuses across a largely rural 7,843‑square‑mile area. After a 2016 attack exposed vulnerabilities and compliance risks (FERPA/HIPAA), the organization needed to better protect student and staff data, reduce time spent managing dispersed endpoints, and give smaller districts access to the same digital resources as larger schools.
ESC Region 11 upgraded to a VMware software‑defined platform—vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and Horizon with App Volumes and User Environment Manager—using vRealize Network Insight for micro‑segmentation planning. The result is stronger, granular security and faster recovery, simpler VDI management (cutting desktop support effort substantially), reliable remote access to apps and data for staff and rural schools, and improved compliance and continuity so districts can focus on teaching.
