Digital Transformation Supports Saudi Vision 2030 to Deliver Efficient Smart City Services

The Saudi Ministry of Municipalities and Rural Affairs (MOMRA) is undertaking a digital transformation to support Saudi Vision 2030. MOMRA previously operated fragmented, distributed data centers across its regional and local municipalities, which drove up costs, slowed deployment of citizen services, increased security and disaster‑recovery complexity, and kept IT staff focused on operations instead of innovation.

To address this, MOMRA built the Municipalities Information Center using Dell EMC and VMware solutions (including VMware vRealize Suite and Enterprise Hybrid Cloud) to centralize infrastructure and deliver IT-as-a-Service through a self-service portal. The change made service delivery instant and automated, boosting IT speed and efficiency by 200%, freeing staff for innovation, allowing 30% of the IT budget to be reallocated to new services, and providing the scalability and availability needed for smart-city initiatives.
