A VMware Case Study
GE Johnson, a Colorado-based general contractor with ten offices, two equipment facilities and about 40 project sites across the western U.S., needed fast, reliable connectivity for remote construction sites. With a small IT team, legacy MPLS and a shift to cloud apps, VoIP and video collaboration, the company struggled with limited bandwidth, lack of central visibility and the need to bring sites online in seven days or less.
GE Johnson deployed VMware NSX SD-WAN (VeloCloud) in-house, using pre‑configured edges, zero‑touch provisioning and any available transport (4G LTE, broadband, microwave, satellite, etc.) to deliver redundant, optimized links and a single‑pane Orchestrator for centralized management. The phased migration off MPLS enabled rapid site turn‑up, prioritized VoIP/video and large-file transfers, simplified remote deployments and yielded about $75,000 in annual circuit and voice cost savings.
