A VMware Case Study
Dell EMC, a global technology provider supporting about 70,000 internal users and running roughly 20,000 virtual machines across seven data centers, set out to transform its data center into an IT-as-a-service environment. The company struggled with lengthy, largely manual processes—up to 45 days to provision a full service—and needed better automation, capacity planning and chargeback to speed delivery and optimize resources.
To solve this, Dell EMC deployed an Enterprise Hybrid Cloud built on VMware vRealize Suite (with vSphere, NSX, ViPR and Vblock) to deliver self-service provisioning, automation blueprints and financial transparency. The automation cut provisioning from 45 days to same-day (often minutes), raised utilization to about 80%, avoided buying 100 servers, and enabled chargeback for 90% of operational expenses, improving agility and investment decisions.
