A VMware Case Study
CITIC Private Equity (CITICPE) is a Beijing-based asset management firm that faced growing IT pressure from rapid business expansion: its legacy data center had no inter-business firewall segmentation, lacked shared storage and load‑balancing, suffered low server utilization, and was constrained by limited rack space—creating security blind spots, business‑continuity risks, and rising O&M costs.
CITICPE deployed a VMware software‑defined data center using vSphere, vSAN, NSX and Cloud Foundation to enable micro‑segmentation, distributed storage replication, HA/vMotion/DRS, and centralized automated management. The upgrade consolidated resources (server consolidation rose from 1:5 to 1:20), supported 80–100 VMs on four virtualization hosts, eliminated single points of storage failure, improved security and continuity, and delivered smarter, more flexible O&M and capacity planning.
