A VMware Case Study
CINgroup, a Dayton, Ohio–based leader in U.S. bankruptcy software (Best Case, CINcompass, CIN Legal Data Services) serving roughly 90% of the market, was shifting from desktop products to cloud services and facing rapidly growing datasets and I/O demands. To protect market share and margins it needed to maintain high application performance as data volumes grew, reduce total cost of ownership, and make IT more flexible and responsive to business needs.
CINgroup virtualized nearly 100% of its servers with VMware vSphere and migrated from a Fibre Channel SAN to VMware vSAN hyper-converged storage, deploying two hybrid clusters supporting 90TB and 200+ VMs. The move cut storage latency from ~5ms to under 1ms, reduced storage CapEx by 70% and OpEx by 10%, lowered power costs by about 30%, reclaimed the equivalent of two full‑time engineers, and freed resources to accelerate product development while preserving performance and scalability.
