Burkhalter and BUSINESS IT Provide Swiss Locations Latest VMware Technologies

The Burkhalter Group is Switzerland’s leading one-stop electrical engineering provider, operating 45 largely autonomous businesses at 101 locations with around 3,000 employees. The company needed a way to give all subsidiaries fast, consistent access to desktops, applications and data, support graphics-heavy CAD work (about 25% of users require video cards) and speed up the IT integration of regularly acquired businesses without installing local infrastructure at each site.

Working with BUSINESS IT AG, Burkhalter implemented a centralized VMware-based platform (vSphere/Horizon with vGPU support) to deliver virtual and hosted desktops on demand. Within months the rollout reached hundreds of users and now runs 900 virtual desktops, enabling faster integration of new sites, on-demand resource scaling, cost and time savings, and more flexible, agile work for engineers while freeing IT staff for other projects.
