A VMware Case Study
Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, a leading private university with multiple Jakarta campuses and a new campus in Bumi Serpong Damai, faced an overcrowded, costly physical IT environment that could not support expansion or modern teaching needs. Servers were frequently overloaded and suffered semester-disrupting downtime, new hardware took weeks to deploy, and the university was buying as many as 12 physical servers per year with high operational and maintenance overhead.
By virtualizing 72 physical servers with VMware vSphere, vCenter and vSAN, Atma Jaya consolidated its infrastructure into a centralized, hyper‑converged platform and now runs about 180 virtualized servers. Procurement of physical servers stopped (cutting server spending by 60–70%), provisioning time fell from weeks to about an hour, downtime was eliminated via live migration, and centralized management reduced manual work—enabling faster rollout of educational technologies and scalable support for the new campus.
