A VMware Case Study
AmBank Group, a leading Malaysian bank, struggled with an aging “rack-and-stack” IT environment—costly legacy systems, massive server sprawl, data-center power limits, and procurement processes that made provisioning take up to 12 weeks—leaving IT staff mired in routine tasks and slowing digital initiatives.
Using a suite of VMware technologies (vSphere/vCloud, vCenter, NSX, Site Recovery Manager and vRealize), AmBank virtualized and consolidated its infrastructure into nine clusters running ~800 VMs for 150 applications, cutting physical server footprint by about 60% and consolidating six data centers into two. Provisioning time fell to under a week, the host-to-VM ratio improved to 1:24, infrastructure and utility costs dropped substantially, disaster recovery became automated with better RTO and audit visibility, and IT resources were freed to focus on strategic projects.
