A VMware vSAN Case Study
Thekking, an Icelandic IT service provider, faced fragmentation from running multiple virtualization platforms (including Hyper-V), too many overlapping tools, rising storage and cluster costs, and no protected management environment to handle outages. To address this, Thekking selected VMware vSAN and VMware’s vSphere with Operations Management to standardize their platform and simplify administration.
Using VMware vSAN and vSphere (vSOM Enterprise Plus 6.5 with vSAN 6.6), Thekking consolidated workloads into a unified platform, created a dedicated management cluster for vCenter and infrastructure services, and gained Log Insight and vRealize Operations for monitoring and capacity planning. As a result, all 700 VMs now run on vSphere (95% server virtualization), troubleshooting is much faster (one incident was resolved in 10 minutes), CapEx and OpEx for storage dropped, uptime and service delivery improved, and business risk from outages was significantly reduced — all delivered via VMware vSAN.
