A VMware vSAN Case Study
T-Mobile Czech Republic, the country’s leading mobile operator and cloud/ICT provider, faced rising complexity, cost and inflexibility from dissimilar, bulky physical storage and SAN-based infrastructure. To reduce costs, simplify management and increase agility for its IaaS/PaaS and private-cloud customers, T‑Mobile turned to VMware vSAN as its software‑defined, hyper‑converged storage solution.
T‑Mobile deployed VMware vSAN (managed via vCenter) to extend virtualization to storage and build hyper‑converged private clouds. The move cut rack space (from about 14U to 10U, ≈$160/month), reduced power costs (~$200/month), and halved administration effort (from 3MD to 1.5MD, ≈$900/month), while enabling on‑demand capacity growth, improved data protection with native data‑at‑rest encryption, and higher customer satisfaction — all delivered by VMware vSAN.
