A VMware vSAN Case Study
Oney Banque Accord, a subsidiary of Auchan Group serving 7.7 million customers, faced the challenge of replacing costly, complex traditional SANs while consolidating offices and deploying a new headquarters. The company needed to implement new storage using existing equipment, ensure high availability for about 900 workstations and 150 applications, and improve data security as part of its operational continuity plan. Oney selected VMware vSAN (VMware Virtual SAN) for its tight integration with vSphere and software‑defined approach.
Using VMware vSAN, Oney implemented a hyper‑converged storage layer that aggregates locally attached disks across servers, supports VDI, and enabled non‑disruptive migrations with vSphere vMotion. VMware vSAN delivered measurable results: significant storage and power cost reductions by eliminating dedicated SAN hardware, improved application and database performance (boosted by flash), increased security and scalability, asynchronous replication every 15 minutes with plans for real‑time stretched clusters, and reduced operational overhead with no service interruptions during migration.
