iGov Technologies Delivers Smaller Lighter Tactical Computing Solution

iGov, a tactical C4I systems integrator that builds rugged mobile communications and computing platforms for U.S. military customers, faced a government requirement to make its tactical network system much smaller, lighter, more power‑efficient and easier to manage. To meet those goals, iGov partnered with VMware vSAN (VMware Virtual SAN) to explore replacing the separate network‑attached storage module with a hyper‑converged, server‑attached storage architecture.

Using VMware vSAN, iGov moved to compact, VMware‑certified servers with Virtual SAN to virtualize onboard storage, eliminating the separate storage module and dramatically reducing SWaP‑C. The new design cut weight from 620 to 170 lbs (≈75%), volume from 48,000 to 6,900 cubic inches, increased IOPS about 10×, extended battery runtime from 18 minutes to 2 hours, and reduced storage build time from 9 hours to 23 minutes—delivering a hand‑carriable, higher‑performing tactical system and prompting broader adoption of VMware vSAN across iGov’s product line.
