A VMware vSAN Case Study
Discovery, a global financial services and health insurance provider, was experiencing hardware instability and infrastructure dependencies that undermined the stability and visibility of its VMware environment. To reduce reliance on third‑party arrays and gain control of its virtual storage as part of a three‑year plan, Discovery adopted VMware vSAN (Virtual SAN).
VMware vSAN was piloted in beta and rolled into production, with US and UK operations now 100% on vSAN and 50% of the head office migrated—Discovery targets about 95% of its virtualization footprint on vSAN over the next two years. The vSAN deployment cut storage I/O latency, improved application and virtualisation performance, delivered space savings through thin provisioning, simplified SAN management, increased visibility with storage‑policy‑based management, and positioned Discovery to scale more easily and lower TCO.
