A VMware vSAN Case Study
CINgroup, a Dayton, Ohio–based leader in U.S. bankruptcy software (Best Case, CINcompass, CIN Legal Data Services), was facing rapid data growth as it shifted from desktop products to cloud services. The company needed to maintain application performance, reduce total cost of ownership, and increase IT agility while avoiding the recurring refresh and scaling limits of its legacy Fibre Channel SAN. CINgroup had already virtualized nearly 100% of its servers with VMware vSphere and evaluated hyper-converged options, selecting VMware vSAN to address its storage challenges.
CINgroup migrated to VMware vSAN, deploying two hybrid vSAN clusters on vSphere to support more than 200 VMs; storage latency fell from about 5 ms to under 1 ms, storage CapEx dropped 70% and OpEx 10%, monthly power costs fell ~30%, and the company reclaimed the equivalent of two full-time engineers. VMware vSAN’s native integration with vSphere delivered predictable, sub‑millisecond performance and improved scalability, enabling faster product development and plans to add a third vSAN cluster.
