A VMware vSAN Case Study
Bülent Ecevit University, a Turkish higher-education institution serving over 30,000 students, faced aging servers and storage that limited data processing and required renewal. To modernize and automate its server and storage stack, Bülent Ecevit University selected VMware vSAN (alongside vSphere and vCenter) to replace the classical SAN-based architecture.
VMware vSAN was deployed as a vSAN Stretch Cluster on six HPE ProLiant servers, consolidating workloads from 8 physical hosts down to a hyper-converged platform and providing about 45 TB net available storage; the refresh reduced the data center footprint by 25%, improved storage and network performance, and simplified capacity scaling. By using VMware vSAN, the university achieved single-console management, higher availability, measurable performance gains, and a foundation for future expansion such as desktop virtualization for labs.
